About Me

Beyond just professional degrees and experience, I believe education has taught me critical thinking and laid the foundation for greater things. On the other side of the coin, spirituality has made me the person I am today; I would not be here without it and every day I am given I am grateful. I hope eventually I will be able to give back in the same way I was given.

Learning and growth are important no matter where you are in your life. A persons character is developed under trials and brought to surface under pressure. Self-improvement is the first step in taking charge of your own life.

Interests & past Projects

I think everyone should have hobbies

Information Technology

One of the gaming desktops I built I converted to a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device using Unraid. With Unraid I learned plenty of valuable skills like using & manipulating code to create web programs.

I have built a reverse proxy server for my Cloud Service using Nextcloud. I containerize software and have built a VPN, and a password manager. I run remote backups, have created a Windows 10 and High Sierra MacOS Virtual Machines and host a media server for my family and friends.

Computer building is another, more expensive venture. I learned to build and install software as a hand-me-down skill from my cousin-in-law. I have yet to build a complex desktop with intricate custom water cooling, but one of these days I would love to build one of those eye catching machines. Here are the 3 different machines I have built. The wife & I are about to start the project of building one for her.

I am also taking some courses to get my IT certifications & learn a few Business Analytics tools.

Personal Finance

Finances have always been of interest to me. I never knew much about it but it is what makes the world go round. I am my own financial advisor for now with the help of professional platforms like Morningstar and The Motley Fool. I have used platforms like Robinhood, TD Ameritrade’s thinkorswimVanguardM1 Finance, and Coinbase. My favorite platform for investing is without a doubt M1 Finance. I have used thinkorswim for both investments & day trading; although, I know Webull may be the people choice when it comes to day trades. Coinbase is great for cryptocurrency, its takes a while and charges small fees for transactions but never fails; Robinhood is great for investing in crypto because its instantaneous, no day trading limitations, and no fees but you cannot make transactions with it.

M1 uses a Pie model as your portfolio, made up of Slices (for instance the slice below Golden Butterfly). The slice consists of multiple holdings designated to whatever percent of the slice you desire. To summarize, my Portfolio (pie) cosists of 6 slices; one slice is the Golden Butterfly portfolio which is made of JUST, BLV, BSV, VBR, & GLD. There are only 5 holdings so to make them equal I designated 20% to each holding.

It auto-invests into your whole portfolio whatever amount you want, monthly, weekly or daily. So you can contribute $100 per week to your portfolio and it will auto invest it into your pie for you without you ever having to think about it. It doesn’t get easier than that.

Rental Property & Construction

I had bought a house after undergrad, I invested in it hoping some years down the road I would build another house or duplex in the oversized lot. A few years went by and the zoning laws changed in Albuquerque. I don’t think I am able to build on the property anymore but at least I’m able to rent it out. I have used a website Rent Prep for Landlords, which also has an awesome podcast to help landlords.

My wife and I took over another property. Prior to moving in we renovated the place. The house needed work from the floor to the ceiling. I grew familiar with plumbing, electrical, drywall, subfloor, tiling, opening up room space with structural modification, appliance installation, and laying flooring.
